CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF LEE BREUER

(Feb 6, 1973 – Jan 3, 2020)

The Festival celebrates the life and inspiring artistry of Lee Breuer.

Glass Guignol, his dazzling riff on Tennessee Williams’ imagery, played at the 2011 Festival, along with a recap of his poetic staging of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Comédie-Française. In 2015 he and his long-time artistic partner Maude Mitchell joined curator David Kaplan for a conversation about Lee’s provocative productions of Shakespeare’s Lear and The Tempest.  His impact was world-wide. The Perfect Surrounding

I’ve been waiting to write this email on behalf of the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival for a time when a Covid vaccine would be released.

That happened Monday. And so this week the odds are good we will have a 2021 Festival in Provincetown, September 23-26.

We don’t yet know specifics. It will be a while before we’re ready to announce our season.

But right now I know this: you’re invited.

Since March our slogan has been If We Can, We Will. In September our audience gathered outdoors in Provincetown’s public parks, circled a maypole in the Truro woods, and parked at the base of a towering sand dune. What we presented in September 2020—ten different live events—took planning and passion, caution and hope, and your support.

With planning, passion, caution, hope—and your continuing support —we’ll be able to act on our 2021 slogan:

If We Can, We Will… Again.

If you have not already done so, please consider supporting our Year-End Campaign.

Please keep in touch,

We will,

David Kaplan, Curator and Co-founder
